2023 Recap with Heather Rackham

We are told many times that if we read our scriptures, say our prayers, go to the temple, and magnify our callings, we will always be led and directed by our Heavenly Parents. But what if we are doing that and the heavens seem silent? In this year's final episode of the 2023, Heather is reflecting back on her year and how it was a year that the heavens seemed very quiet. Instead of thinking something had gone terribly wrong, Heather shares the important lessons and purpose she has found in the quiet.  If you have had times in your life where you have felt like the heavens were quiet, then make sure to listen to this episode and reflect yourself on the reason perhaps why that happened and what your Heavenly Parents were trying to teach you.

The Power of a Faithful Mother

We all want to have a good relationship with our children. We all want them to make good choices. We all want them to be happy and stay close to the Lord. But despite some of our greatest efforts our children are not always going to follow the “formula” that will lead them on the path we think they should go. Coach Christi Davis is on the podcast today talking about her book entitled “The Power of a Faithful Mother”. She wrote this book because she followed the “formula” of being a righteous mother, and yet many of her children made choices that that formula should not have produced. It forced her to rework the formula and find one that allowed her to have a strong and amazing relationship with her children despite their choices.

The Power of Validation

We all have had those moments in our lives when we have needed someone to listen to an experience we have had, hear it, and simply validate the way we are feeling. When someone does it properly, it allows us to calm down, draw closer to the person validating, as well as draw closer to ourselves. The problem is that finding someone who can do that for us is often difficult. Many times other’s don’t know how to validate or they are in a mode of trying to “fix” our problems instead of just hearing them.  Meg Tilton is on the podcast today teaching you the importance of self-validation and how when you can learn to do this you will not need to seek validation from anyone else. Meg is a firm believer that when you can learn to validate yourself, you have more love for yourself and others in your life. You drop expectations of others and know that you can take care of yourself.

Lessons from the Stripling Warriors’ Mothers

If you are a mother there’s no doubt you have often felt like you are floundering and that the ground you stand on is shaky. Raising kids is not for the faint of heart. While the scriptures do not give much direction on how to be a mother there is one verse in the Book of Mormon that speaks volumes about mothering. Coach Heidi Allsop is on the podcast today talking about the profound impact the Stripling Warriors’ mothers had on them simply by knowing. But what did they know? Come and listen as Heidi reveals the answer to that question and helps you on the path of also being a mother that knows.  This is a great episode to kick off December when we speak reverently of another mother who knew much as she raised our Savior Jesus Christ. Your impact and influence on your boys can be the same. You too have the power to lead your sons by knowing the things of God.  Enjoy this episode.

Positive Self-Talk

Our main form of communication is through language - spoken, written, and thought. We live in a world full of language and much of it is negative. Is it any wonder that if we so willingly speak to each other negatively that the source may actually stem from how we speak to ourselves? Coach Michelle Keill is on the podcast today talking about how the way we speak to ourselves not only impacts us, but all the relationships we have in our lives. If we want to see better external talk, then we need to start talking better to ourselves.  Speaking well to ourselves is something that God expects of us and he has taught us how to do this. Listen today as Michelle not only talks about the importance of positive self-talk but also gives scriptural references showing the importance God holds in speaking nicely about ourselves. If you’d like help in being better at speaking kindly with yourself, please reach out to Michelle and let her help you.  Enjoy this episode.

We live in a world that talks about love a lot, but far too often we are looking for that love outside of ourselves. But the truth is, the greatest and fastest way to put love out in the world is to actually already have it within yourself. Coach Amber Winn is on the podcast today talking about how each of us should become the loves of our own lives and when we do, we will automatically spread that love to others. Amber is passionate about women of all ages learning to better love themselves. We hope you walk away from this episode knowing how important self-love is, that is not only important but vital to being your best self, and it is a skill you can work on at any age.

How to Accomplish Your Goals

We all have goals we want to accomplish in our life. Some goals are big and some are small but no matter the size, all goals need certain ingredients to make sure they are accomplished. Coach Lisa Salisbury is no stranger to goal setting as she is a weight loss coach and her clients come to her with the goal to lose weight but what they leave with is so much more. Lisa is on the podcast today talking about how all goals have a sweet spot to accomplishment that lies between too hard and too easy, how planning for the obstacles with curiosity is key to dealing with them, that support is different than accountability in accomplishing your goals, and how the number one person you need support from in making your goals come about is always yourself. Goals are what help us grow and progress but there are great ways to accomplish goals which will make the process more enjoyable and fun. If you would like help with goals - especially losing weight, please reach out to Lisa and let her help you along the way.

Scrupulosity

Jill Freestone is back on the podcast this week talking about what happens when those who have OCD bring it into religion. This type of OCD is called scrupulosity and it happens when someone obsessively worries about their behavior going against their religious or moral beliefs. In a church that has a lot of “do’s” and “don’ts” thinking clearly and not obsessing and acting on compulsions can be very difficult for someone with OCD. Jill does a great job of teaching why rules are actually there and how sometimes in order to be free of scrupulous thinking you have to learn to break the rules not for disobedience but so that you actually can take a higher moral road and live with more faith. Scrupulosity is probably more common than you know and this episode will help you see where it shows up either in your own life or in the life of a loved one.

How to Identify Trauma in Your Black and White Thinking

It is natural for the brain to think in black and white. There is good and there is bad. On the surface it makes situations seem easy to navigate but when our thinking and reality don’t line up, it can create a trauma response within our nervous systems.    Coach Cami Birdo is on the podcast today talking about how to identify trauma induced by black and white thinking and where we see it in our religion, parenting, and dealings within society. The good news is that healing can take place and black and white thinking can be replaced with an abundance of curiosity which ultimately leads to more love for ourselves and others.
