Doctrine & Covenants 12-17

This week we are studying Doctrine and Covenants sections 12 through 17, in addition to the final verses of Joseph Smith History. These sections are revelations given in answers to questions that individuals had about their lives. We’ll talk about the doctrine of revelation and how God wants to reveal things to us, but we must be prepared to receive them. We’ll discuss what is our part in seeking truth and how we can understand it. We’ll also talk about how implementing received revelation can help us change if we follow true principles.  There are free worksheets available for the invitations made in the weekly podcasts. When Faith Heals and When it Hurts

This week, Tim and I are sharing a fascinating conversation with therapist and researcher Janeen Martin about the complex and deeply personal ways that religion and mental health intersect. Janeen has spent years working with clients navigating the full spectrum of religious experience—some who find their faith to be a source of deep resilience and healing, and others for whom it has been a source of pain and struggle. That contrast led her to ask some big questions: What makes religion a protective factor for some and a source of distress for others? How do individual personality, family dynamics, and church culture shape the way we engage with faith? And most importantly, how can we cultivate a relationship with God and our faith that supports our mental and emotional well-being?

This week we are studying Joseph Smith History verses one through twenty-six. This is one of the accounts of the First Vision as given by Joseph Smith. We’ll talk about several truths that can help us manage our mental health. The first is the knowledge and hope that God is aware of us and has a plan for our success.
