Romans 1–6

In this episode we'll talk about Romans 1-6. This is the first of the New Testament epistles, or letters, written by leaders of the church to local church members. Paul writes many of these letters and they comprise most of the remaining books in the New Testament. One of the themes in this week’s reading is that of hope. When people have anxiety and depression, hope can be very difficult to come by. But Paul teaches how hope is possible even in the most desperate of circumstances. He provides a specific recipe that we can follow to increase hope and decrease despair.

Real Connection Through Vulnerability

We all yearn and are wired to be connected to those around us. So how do we do it, how do we become more connected to those in our lives. Coach Meagan Skidmore feels the key to connection is the ability and willingness to be vulnerable. On today’s podcast she shares great examples and insights on how to be more vulnerable and what connection can look like when we are.  If you feel like there is a relationship in your life that could use better connection, look at how vulnerable you are willing to be and then see if you can practice vulnerability more. Family Services Helps Leaders

Dr. Ben Erwin received his master's degree from the University of Hawaii, and his PhD from Brigham Young University. His clinical specialties include marriage counseling, addictions and working with adolescents. Ben is currently the program manager for the Addiction Recovery Program for the Church and is also adjunct faculty for Utah Valley University's Marriage and Family Therapy program. He has served as a member of the Utah Governor’s Behavioral Health Workgroup and a board member of the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Behavioral Health Advisory Council. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Seraglio, a short film he wrote and directed with his wife, Gail Lerner. He has taught Theater and/or Filmmaking at Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, Cal Poly Pomona University, and to incarcerated youth through The Unusual Suspects. His one person show titled, Grief: A One Man S**tShow, premiered at the Hollywood Fringe Festival where it won a Best of Broadwater Award. He lives in Los Angeles and sometimes Joshua Tree.
