Learning to Be More Than an Athlete
The pressure to be a good athlete starts early in a child’s life and continues as they grow and settle into their preferred sport. With so much emphasis on winning and being good it’s no wonder that many young athletes can start to equate their worth and value to the success they are or aren’t seeing in their sport. After years of pushing and striving to be better and better herself, coach Lorrine Headrick had a wake up call that made her realize her worth and value was not tied to her success as an athlete. She now helps young high school and college age athletes know that they are still great athletes even when they make mistakes and that their worth and value is not dependent on how well they perform. By helping these athletes let go of perfectionism she is seeing them build more confidence, enjoy their sports more, and actually be more successful in all areas of their lives.
