This week we are studying Doctrine and Covenants sections three through five. We’ll talk about the history of section three, the lost Book of Mormon manuscript, and Joseph’s mistake in not following the will of the Lord. We’ll review the importance of getting heavenly direction in our lives, especially when it involves personal and mental health improvement. We’ll also talk about some fallacies that can keep us from progressing. Finally, we’ll review how the Lord is always merciful and will continually invite us back to walk with Him, regardless of how many mistakes we make.

When the pillars of faith begin to quake, will you retreat to familiar ground, or brave the tremors to seek answers? Musician and doctoral audiology student, Marlisa Wootton, recalls a pivotal moment in 2020 when she dared to confront the unsettling waves of a faith crisis—an inner storm that questioned the spiritual foundation she once thought unshakable. Taking the risk of willingly diving into controversial thought spirals and studies on Church history, societal issues, and personal identity, she found herself at a crossroads: remain in familiar but secluded territory, or rebuild a testimony strong enough to find the answers to her faith's purpose.
Steve discusses Dr. King's A Letter from Birmingham Jail with Pastor Vinetta Golphin-Wilkerson and Dr. LaShawn Williams. Reverend Vinnetta Golphin-Wilkerson has been serving the West Valley City community since 2011, when she moved from Atlanta to Salt Lake City to lead the congregation of Granger Community Christian Church. During her time as reverend, she began hosting Project Cornucopia, an event aimed to create a one-stop-shop for community members to learn about and access needed resources from food, education, health, and more.
Steve Hitz is the author of "Igniting the Holy Flame: Building Communities of Love from the Ashes of Negative Religious Culture", and talks about how we can work together to overcome negative culture in our faith community.
This week, Zach Davis is joined by New York Times columnist and author Ross Douthat to talk about his new book, Believe: Why Everyone Should Be Religious.Ross has spent his career bridging worlds—explaining faith and conservatism to a largely secular audience while also translating secular ideas back to religious readers. In this conversation, he makes a compelling case for why belief isn’t just a leap into the unknown, but a rational and maybe even necessary response to the world as we actually experience it.Zach and Ross also explore some of the major barriers that keep modern, intellectually serious people from embracing faith—things like the Copernican and Darwinian revolutions, which many see as having displaced humanity from the center of the universe. But Ross challenges these assumptions, showing how science, rather than disproving faith, could actually deepen the mystery of our existence in a way that makes belief more compelling than ever.
