Doctrine & Covenants 41-44

This week we are studying Doctrine and Covenants sections 41 through 44. We’ll talk about how the Lord commanded his disciples to follow His law, expecting them to be disciplines. We’ll discuss how discipline is also required when trying to achieve consistent change, and how inconsistent efforts are less effective. We’ll also talk about the idea of “but if not” from the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and how this concept can help us remain faithful even when our trials persist. There are free worksheets available for the invitations made in the weekly podcasts. Americans Are Reading Fewer Books Than Ever. Does That Matter in 2025?

Americans reported reading 12 books on average in 2022. That’s the lowest number since Gallup started polling on this in the 90s. Survey data from 2023 show nearly half of US adults didn't read—or listen to—even one book that year. It's no wonder; book reading has to compete with endless news feeds, social media sites, streaming services, and even podcasts for free time. Teachers are starting to worry about this. College professors report their incoming freshman seem unable to stick with long, complicated texts. At the high school level, teachers are taking novels off their curriculum entirely, sticking to excerpts and movie-versions of the classics.

Partying with Post Malone

"I think that's the big thing is I had been to the temple once, right when I got outta prison. But I didn't feel like I was doing it for myself. I felt like I was doing it for the people around me and I didn't get to really enjoy it. And of course, your first time in the temple, you're looking everywhere. You're like, what does this mean? What does this mean? But now that I came back to this church and I went back for the first time in February, it's for me, it's for no one else. It's for me. When you do it for yourself, it feels so much better."

Connecting Authentically with Youth

Braeden Jensen is a Mental Health Counselor and previously worked as a full-time Seminary teacher. Spending seven years in a high school classroom opened his eyes to a number of things. It changed his ability to listen and sharpened his aptitude for empathy. The more he sat with and listened to students, the more he saw and felt how many people are hurting in very real ways.
